The default search space: five targets, four tree counts, two depths.
monotone holds None and/or "declared"; the declared set comes
from compile_selected(monotone_constraints=...) and is never inferred.
Depth 3 is not in the grid because it forfeits exact attribution; add it
explicitly if that trade is acceptable.
